Windsor CC 1st Team Vs Thatham Town CC 1st Team @ Home Park

On a typical Windsor wicket with overcast conditions acting Skipper lost the toss again and was asked to bat this didn’t cause to much concern as Thompson would have batted if he had won the toss.

Thompson’s instructions to his batsmen were to work hard and focus on batting in partnerships looking for a score of 200 +, things didn’t exactly go to plan with wickets falling at regular intervals, scoring runs was also hard do to very accurate bowling and good captaincy by the Thatcham skipper, Craig Bird did bat very well showing great resistance and composure ending up with a brilliant ton, Windsor ending up on 181 – 9 which Thompson thought was 30 runs short.

Windsor started with the old ball and the all seam attack of Griffiths and Granger after a steady start by the batsmen nothing appeared to be happening so the new ball was taken, immediately the ball started to do a little more and Griffiths who had been bowling very accurately got the 1st break through but Thatcham looked in control and were always ahead of the run rate, Windsor didn’t give up though with accurate bowling from Mohindru and a great second spell of fast bowling from Granger, as the game ebbed and flowed Windsor started to take control taking 5 wickets for 9 runs and all of a sudden 25 points looked possible with Thatcham 160 – 9 need 22 to win, unfortunately for Windsor the Thatcham last 2 battled hard and some good hits got them to the Windsor total.

Everybody agreed it was a great game and exactly how cricket should be played.

Windsor 1st Team Vs Basingstoke and NHants 2nd Team

Windsor arrived to what looked like a fantastic batting pitch and a very fast outfield. Windsor had planned to bat second if they had won the toss hoping to restrict Basingstoke to a low score then knock the runs off with an aim to take 20 points.

Unfortunately for stand in captain Peter Thompson, the toss was lost and Windsor were asked to bat, things didn’t exactly go to plan with Windsor loosing wickets at regular intervals due to mainly some very good bowling from Basingstoke, one of the top 6 batsmen shone through! Young Mike Gould scoring a brilliant and elegant 50, but Windsor were in trouble still at 100 – 5! Step forward the rear guard with, batting 7 Brian Davies scored a fast and fluent 32, skipper Thompson then batted out the over with veterans Wayne Spence and Ra Mohindru taking the total to 191-9.

Windsor took the field knowing that 191 might not be enough runs on this excellent wicket and ground, skipper Thompson gave instructions to the team and bowlers to keep runs down and build the pressure, fast bowler Griffiths and Granger then produced and brilliant opening spell removing the top 5 batsmen, the fielding was also excellent with one especially brilliant catch by Thompson.

14 overs had gone and although there were 5 wickets down runs were now flowing with chandler taking the bowlers on, at this point Thompson decided to bring on the spin duo of Spence and Mohindru, both bowlers again showed there experience and class taking the important wicket of chandler then removing the tail, giving Windsor a well deserved 25 points.
