WINDSOR 234-9
BASINGSTOKE&NH2 187 (Spence 6-47)

Windsor were inserted on what looked like a decent deck at home park. Noble was at the top of the order with young Gould, and after only 3 deliveries he was having to knuckle down and rebuild as both Gould and middle order stallwart Thompson were removed by the impressive Bowen. 0 for 2, another nightmare start for the Winsdsor outfit. Granger was promoted to 4, and immediatley began with some powerful straight drives, making a mockery of difficult conditions. With Noble dropping anchor, the score was starting to look a little more credible. Granger then fell to a regulation catch at square leg, but Mathews held his nerve and with furhter support from Noble the total crept past 100 for the loss of 3 wickets. Noble then played round one, bring the capable Chorley to the wicket. This was not his day however, as a rip snorter of a deliver took the edge and a spectacular diving slip catch sent the former skipper for an early shower. Davies was out driving to cover, and when Mathews fell, it was left to the big hitting Huggins and Windsor skipper Watkins to fashion a competitive total. Mixing crunching blows with solid defence, the partnership grew, taking windsor past the key 200 mark. A flurry of boundaries in the last few overs, mixed in with a couple of wickets left Windsor in great shape at 234 for 9. Bowen takes credit for his 5 wickets, although the Basingstoke skipper will be dissapointed with the all round team effort.

In reply Windsor handed the advantage to the opposition, with Granger in particular struggling for line and length. Vinn played well, striking the poor ball to the boundary with ease, and Watkins was forced to turn to the miserly Spence and Mohindru for some control. At 70 for 0 after 10, the game was alive, and with credit to Basingstoke, even after the impressive spence bagan working his way through the order, the run rate never climbed above 6 and over until the final few. Spence was on fire, tossing in the moon ball and showing great control on a bunsen burner of a wicket. Noble behind the stumps had a tough afternoon, but rescued it with two fine stumpings and a smart run out of the dangerous lampkin with the help of some unusually cool thinking from Granger. As the game reached the crucial point, Granger was brough back into the attack, with devastating consequesces. Marshall and Pearson were quickly removed, and Windsor had taken home the spoils with over 8 overs to go.

Windsor were back on form on saturday as local rivals Marlow made the trip to home park. Windsor skipper watkins won the toss and chose to bat, sending in new ball meastro Bird and youngster Gould. Bird quickly ran out Gould, prefering to stand his ground rather than risk a tight sprint. He then began to make ammeds with some fine drives before nicking one off Thomas. Chorley began to settle before playing round one, and Noble showed plenty of grit before chipping one to Hudson off Thomas. Once again the Windsor top order hadn't delviered the goods. Mathews and overseas live wire Granger then set about restoring parity, showing the way with some fine running between the wickets and some aggressive strokeplay. A welcome return to form for Mathews.

Wrighton took the wickets of both, but not before the momentum had returned to the Windsor innings. Thompson then expertly sheparded the tale to allow windsor to post a reasonable total of 182 for 9.

In reply the Marlow innings got off to a flyer. Watkins bowled like a drain, serving up 3 very ordinary overs before pulling himself out of the attack. At 50 - 0 off 10, it wasn't looking good for the home park outfit. Granger then stepped up to the plate, trapping Allier and Hudson LBW with a burst of pace. Quick boy Mohindru then brought his usual measure of control to proceedings, allowing first Granger and then Spence to attack at the other end. Wickets began to fall, and Marlow innings collapsed, helped by some outstanding fielding and catching. When Marlow skipper Madursinghe went for 25, the chase effectively ended. The lower order offered little resistance, and at 150 for 9, the away team shut up shop. Granger finished with 5, Mohindru and Spence sharing the remaining spoils.

A very solid performance from Windsor, they will be looking to build on this on saturday as Harefield make the trip to Home Park.
